A new year – 2015 Reflection

It wouldn’t be right to “officially” begin the new year without a quick reflection on 2015. So here it goes (I’ll try to be as concise as possible):

2015 was probably the most challenging year of my life thus far. We all deal with the typical ups and downs of each passing day, but this year I experienced moments where I was challenged like never before. After several years of trying to balance a full-time job with doing what I actually love to do, I finally made the decision to take that giant leap of faith and pursue my passion full-time. I always knew the corporate world wasn’t for me, but I wanted to be extremely strategic about my decision. I made a plan – I set goals – I set a date – I executed. It was time, but my body had other plans. Very early in the year, I started to experience pain in my lower abdomen unlike anything I had ever felt before. Shortly thereafter, I was lying in the ER being told that my appendix had ruptured. I spent the next week in the hospital where I did a lot of thinking. I remembered a quote that said “A setback is a setup for a comeback”, and that stuck with me. When I was finally released, I was sent home with a PICC line in my arm to administer my own antibiotics so I could return to work and get back to some normalcy. After about a month or so, I returned to have my appendix removed, and by April I was back on my feet again. Looking back, I had posted a picture to Instagram days before I first started to experience pain in which I wrote, ” The race is not won by those who are the strongest, but by those who can ENDURE.” Talk about foreshadowing.

I had experienced a massive setback, but I endured and was ready to move forward with the next chapter of my life. I parted ways with my full-time job of nearly 5 years and started my own business: Monopoli Music Group, LLC. I had the opportunity to DJ at 130 total events over the course of 2015, not including four weeks that I spent DJing all over the Caribbean on Royal’s Freedom of the Seas. All and all, I successfully checked off the majority of the 2015 goals I had set in January. Most importantly, my loved ones are all healthy, so I am fortunate enough to share this journey with them.

In 2015 I made a decision to do what I love for a living. It’s not always easy, but the people I get to meet, and the amazing places I get to see, make it all worth it. I can’t possibly mention everyone on here personally, but I have to give one big THANK YOU to EVERYONE for an extraordinary year. Shout out to anyone who came to my events and showed love. Shout out to anyone who listened to my mixes or kept up with me on social media. Shout out to the promoters, owners/managers, and DJ’s who booked me. Shout out to the DJ’s who keep it real and genuinely help each other grow. Shout out to the amazing Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas crew whom I got to spend four memorable weeks with! Shout out to the awesome guests that I had the opportunity to meet while onboard the Freedom who now follow me on social media. Shout out to everyone from the Scratch family and everyone I’ve worked corporate events with over the course of this year. Shout out to the ALLURE ONE squad with whom I’ll be shutting down private events with in 2016! Shout out to my family and friends for supporting me and driving me towards success.

I look forward to an even better year in 2016 and hope you will all be a part of it. We’re just getting started. Much love !
